Frequently Asked Questions...

Hi, how do I begin the process of getting a woodburned instrument from you?

To start the process, we need to consider the design that you would like woodburned onto your guitar, and which make/model guitar we will use as canvas. If you are providing a guitar then you will have that delivered to us. If you need to get one for this project, we can help procure the one you want, or you can order one and have it delivered. A 50% deposit is required upon reciept of guitar, and the remaining balance is due when a design draft is completed, approved by you and ready to burn.

Once I order, how long does it take to complete my guitar?

It depends on our work queue, but it usually takes a few months from initial contact to completion. Factors may include; how many guitars we have in line ahead of your order, how long it takes to finalize your design, how complex your design is, and what type of finish we use on your instrument.

How does woodburning a guitar affect the instrument?

The short answer is yes, the work I do does affect the voicing of an acoustic guitar. As does the type of finish used. As does applying a pickguard. If a person rests their forearm on the guitar while they play, that will also affect the acoustic resonance of the instrument. Lots of things can act on the body of a guitar to affect its acoustics.

Relatively speaking, I would say that guitar pyrography, when well executed, has a minimal effect on the voicing of a guitar. I’ve yet to have a client report an adverse or diminished quality to the acoustics of their guitar, and many of my clients are professional musicians with uniquely discerning ears, so that’s saying something. Most people without well-trained ears won’t detect a change in the voicing of a high-quality guitar before it gets woodburned, and after it had the pyrography design added.

How do I take care of a woodburned instrument?

Beyond the normal care that any guitar requires, factors like humidity, and exposure to direct sunlight or bright lights, can affect the appearance of the woodburned designs. Over time pyrography can fade, so to give your art the longest life possible, and to enable you to enjoy your art for many years to come, it is recommended you avoid leaving it in areas of direct sunlight.
